PVC Tarpaulin: Waterproof and Durable


PVC tarpaulin is a coated fabric made with high-strength polyester fabric as the base, coated on both sides with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) paste resin. Its production process typically includes dip coating, drying and shaping, calendering and cooling, and winding. Because it is formed in one step using a dip coating process, the gaps in the tarpaulin are filled with PVC paste, giving PVC tarpaulin excellent waterproof performance. PVC tarpaulin can withstand water pressure of ≥2000 mm water column, effectively preventing water penetration. It also possesses properties such as mildew resistance, cold resistance, and aging resistance, with its anti-aging performance far superior to tarpaulins made of PP and PE materials.


In terms of durability, PVC tarpaulins perform excellently, with warp and weft strengths reaching ≥2100N/5CM and ≥1600N/5CM respectively. However, PVC tarpaulins also have some drawbacks. Firstly, they are relatively heavy, making frequent movement or folding inconvenient. Secondly, new tarpaulins may have a PVC coating odor, which requires ventilation and airing out for a period of time to dissipate. PVC tarpaulins are prone to softening and deformation in high-temperature environments, requiring special care during use. Contact with sharp objects may scratch the surface coating, affecting its waterproof performance.


Oxford Cloth: Balanced Practicality


Originating in England and named after Oxford University, Oxford cloth is a common material for making bags and luggage. Common types of Oxford cloth on the market include checkered Oxford cloth, nylon Oxford cloth, and full-stretch Oxford cloth.


The main advantage of Oxford cloth lies in its balanced performance. It boasts both excellent abrasion resistance and durability, thanks to its common use of polyester, nylon, and other synthetic fibers, as well as its tightly woven double-warp and double-weft structure.

Oxford cloth also exhibits excellent waterproof performance, benefiting from its dense fiber structure and special water-repellent treatment. Simultaneously, Oxford cloth is remarkably breathable, allowing air to circulate freely between the fibers without creating a stuffy feeling.

In terms of price, Oxford cloth has a significant advantage, typically costing only a few to a dozen yuan per meter, offering excellent value. However, Oxford cloth also has its limitations: it wrinkles easily due to its relatively thin fabric and loose weave, making it prone to creases after compression or folding.


Nylon: Lightweight and Strong


Nylon fabric is widely used in bag manufacturing, especially suitable for products requiring lightweight construction. Nylon's most prominent advantage lies in its superior abrasion resistance, ranking first among all fabrics and exceeding that of other fiber fabrics in the same category by several times. Nylon fabric boasts relatively good moisture absorption among synthetic fibers, resulting in breathable and comfortable bags.

As a lightweight fabric, nylon bags are ideal for travel. Nylon also exhibits good elasticity and resilience, but this makes it prone to deformation under external forces. Furthermore, nylon has poor heat and light resistance, requiring careful washing and maintenance to avoid damage.
