Denier is a key metric used to measure the fineness of a fabric's base cloth. It defines the meaning of the "D" in designations such as 1300D. Simply put, the higher the Denier value, the coarser the fabric's yarns and the greater its density; consequently, the fabric becomes stronger and more durable. For instance, with common specifications such as 500D, 800D, 1300D, and 1500D—as the numerical value increases—the fabric's tensile strength and tear resistance improve progressively. 1300D falls into the medium-to-high specification range; it is thicker than 500D yet lighter than 1500D, striking a "golden balance" between strength and practicality.

In addition to Denier, PVC-coated fabrics are typically marked with other data points, such as "GSM" (grams per square meter) and "warp and weft density" (e.g., 20×20). GSM serves as a metric for fabric weight; a higher value indicates a thicker and more durable fabric. Warp and weft density (e.g., 20×20) represents the yarn count per square inch; the higher the count, the denser the fabric's structure, resulting in superior waterproofing and tear-resistant properties.
