Truck tarpaulins are important protective materials in cargo transportation. Water pressure rating is a key indicator of a tarpaulin's waterproof capability.
Truck tarpaulins are exposed to complex weather conditions for extended periods, especially extreme weather such as heavy rain and snow. Their waterproof performance directly affects whether the cargo will get wet or damaged. Water pressure rating (i.e., hydrostatic pressure resistance value) is a core parameter for measuring the tarpaulin's resistance to penetration.
If the water pressure rating is insufficient, rainwater may penetrate the tarpaulin, leading to cargo dampness, mildew, and even safety accidents. Therefore, choosing the appropriate water pressure rating according to actual needs is crucial.
According to national standards (such as GB/T 4744) and international standards (such as ISO 811), tarpaulins must pass a hydrostatic pressure test, which involves continuously injecting water at a specified speed until leakage occurs. The height of the water column at this point is recorded as the hydrostatic pressure resistance value.
Short-distance ordinary transportation: Choose a PVC tarpaulin with a 2000mm water pressure rating for cost-effectiveness.
Long-distance sea transport or harsh weather: Prioritize products with a rating of 3000mm or higher, such as for port container covering and polar transportation.
Flame retardancy: Some PVC tarpaulins contain flame retardants to meet fire safety requirements (e.g., oxygen index ≥32%).
Self-cleaning: The surface uses PVDF or titanium dioxide coating, allowing rainwater to wash away stains and reduce maintenance costs.
Truck Type D tarpaulins: National standards require a water pressure resistance of ≥2000mm, and the seams must meet the same standard.
Architectural membrane structure tarpaulins: Need to consider UV resistance and high-temperature resistance (-30℃~70℃), and the water pressure rating is usually ≥3000mm.
The water pressure rating of truck tarpaulins should be selected based on the actual usage scenario, cargo characteristics, and environmental conditions. PVC coated fabric is the preferred material in the industry due to its high waterproofness, weather resistance, and strength. When making your selection, we recommend prioritizing products that have passed national standard certification and paying attention to additional features (such as flame retardancy and self-cleaning capabilities) to ensure both safety and cost-effectiveness.
